Arrival in the US: 2016

Reason for migration: I came here because in Amman, Jordan where my family and I had lived as refugees for four years, there was no work.  My children could not have a future there or even a good education because there were so many refugees.

Commentary: I lived in Syria from 1999 to 2011.  When the troubles started, the police came into my neighborhood and took all the young men away.  I was held for 40 days.  Now I have a problem with my back because they hit me a lot while I was in captivity.  It took a long time and many interviews before my family could come to the United States.
